On our eleventh blog in this series, we speak to Anisha Saigal.
Anisha is an entertainment and culture writer and researcher from New Delhi. A Ph.D. candidate in Cinema Studies at the School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU, she's taken Netflix and solo chill in quite a literal sense. With her weekly hot takes on film, television, and web series on stck.me, Anisha straddles to find the binge-able value on the spectrum of critically acclaimed and cringe in all that she streams.
In this interview series, we speak to her about her creative interests, what she majorly writes, her favorite genre when it comes to reading, listening, and looking for content on social media, and her experience with the platform, stck.me, and much more.
What was your biggest expectation from stck.me when you created your account?
I was one of the early creators on the platform and I wanted to use that to my advantage. I went in blind and had no idea what the platform could do for me and how best I could use it when I came aboard in August 2020.
The circumstances for working employees around the world were changing and being in the middle of a professional life transition myself, I decided to write on TV and films on the OTT platform, just to see if there is any value in doing so. There were no defined expectations, per se, but just a clean interface for the readers and a clutter-free back-end for the creators/writers that I wanted which I found at stck.me.
How helpful was stck.me in catering to the expectation?
In terms of offering a clean UI/UX for a reader/visitor on the personal pages, I think stck.me exceeded expectations from the first day onwards. I dig the font, the layout and the ability to cross-post a variety of media without much of a hassle, a big win for a writer!
What do you majorly write about?
I started out with TV and films on the OTT platform but was open to experimenting with my genre and I wrote on culture, trends, dating, relationships, etc but soon realized that the best traction and feedback I received were on film and TV-related writing and stuck to that.
Tell us about some of your successful stck.me blogs? How did your readers react to it?
I can't really pick one, I think I should be picking the ones that didn't work in all honesty, cause most others qualify as successful! The one that got me immense traction was James Blunt's book review, this is while I was in my experimental stage. Blunt himself "liked" the review on Twitter when I shared it.
The other one that got massive traction on socials was the review I wrote for AK vs AK. This was shared by Anil Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap among others. But again, I've had so many of my reviews shared on socials by actors, producers, directors etc it's only the ones that didn't work are what I remember now!
With stck.me introducing new features with time, do you think that has contributed to the ease of creating content on the platform?
To be fair, as a writer, I don't often indulge in the number of features introduced but I do know other creators who do make use of it and writing isn't for everyone.
It's quite cool to see stck.me looking out for creators who excel in different areas other than just writing. This ensures the platform isn't another blogging website and instead it is in tune with the hype around web 3.0.
Any suggestions you would like to give us as a team to focus more on?
I have always been persistent around the issue of extensive stats and details on the demographics of where the readers are coming from and how long they stay on each post and how much of it they actually consume. A refined stats bar always helps and motivates the creators to perform better and gauge their performance accurately. If this comes about, we'll be golden.
What is your favorite genre when it comes to reading, listening, or looking for content on social media?
I would say equal parts reader of text and visuals. I'm not a big fan of long-format videos and audio stuff, which means there's little for me to consume in the rapidly transforming and changing digital ecosystem.
