This week, Naresh Fernandes writes about Maurice Concessio, the trombone player with the warm baritone voice whose band played at everyone’s weddings. "Concessio had ridden out all the changes in musical taste. For a long time, his band was called Maurice Concessio and the Swing Sensation, but when I was growing up, it was known as Maurice Concessio and the Rock Sensation," he writes.
Meanwhile, Cricket Field Chronicles writes about The Pentangular- the story about the tournament that shaped cricket culture in India, but remains largely forgotten. "Despite being hugely popular, the Pentangular also faced criticism for to its communal and divisive nature. The campaign to abolish Pentangular intensified between 1930’s and 1940’s after the formation of the BCCI in 1928 and institution of region-based Ranji trophy competition in 1934," he writes.
